About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior AEM System Architect to lead the design, architecture, and delivery of enterprise-scale Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) solutions. This is a senior-level individual contributor and technical leadership role responsible for driving end-to-end solution architecture across AEM Sites, Assets, Forms, and Commerce, while partnering with cross-functional engineering teams and advising clients on Digital Experience Platform (DXP) strategy.

The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on expertise in both on-premise AEM and AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaaCS) environments, along with a strong understanding of the broader Adobe ecosystem. This role requires a blend of technical depth, architectural vision, and stakeholder management skills to translate complex technical solutions into measurable business value.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Design

  • Own and drive end-to-end AEM solution architecture, including content modelling, JCR structure, delivery architecture, caching, and CDN strategies.
  • Define and document High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
  • Evaluate and establish architectural approaches across headless, hybrid, and traditional AEM delivery models.
  • Design scalable multi-site, multi-tenant, and multi-region implementations using MSM, Live Copy, and Language Copy.
  • Establish robust security architecture, including service users, SAML/SSO integration, CSRF protection, and permission hierarchies.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead architecture reviews, code reviews, and define enterprise-grade AEM development standards and reusable frameworks.
  • Mentor and guide AEM engineering teams on OSGi services, Sling Models, HTL development, API architecture, and best practices.
  • Drive DevOps maturity through Adobe Cloud Manager and CI/CD implementation strategies.
  • Lead performance optimisation initiatives including Dispatcher tuning, Oak index optimisation, cache management, and CDN integration.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct client workshops, discovery sessions, solution consulting, and support RFP/pre-sales engagements.
  • Translate technical architecture decisions into business-friendly communication for executive and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between client architecture teams, Adobe TAMs, and SI partners.
  • Provide delivery estimates, solution risk assessments, and capacity planning for large-scale AEM programmes.

Platform & Ecosystem Stewardship

  • Stay aligned with the latest AEM roadmap, Adobe Experience Platform (AEP) capabilities, and emerging DXP trends.
  • Architect integrations across Adobe Analytics, Target, Campaign, Launch, and Adobe Commerce.
  • Provide strategic guidance on AEM Commerce (CIF), DAM implementations, Dynamic Media/Scene7, and enterprise-scale asset management.
  • Proactively identify and resolve systemic platform risks, including replication failures, Oak indexing issues, memory leaks, and security vulnerabilities.

Technical Expertise

Core AEM & Development Stack

  • Java / J2EE – OSGi services, Sling Models, custom servlets, schedulers, and event listeners
  • HTL (Sightly) – component templating and advanced authoring patterns
  • Maven – AEM archetypes, package management, and cloud-ready builds
  • Frontend technologies – HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Angular
  • GraphQL – persisted queries, schema design, and headless content delivery
  • Node.js – migration tooling and automation scripts

Cloud, DevOps & Infrastructure

  • Adobe Cloud Manager – pipelines, environments, and quality gates
  • CI/CD – Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
  • Docker & Kubernetes for hybrid/on-prem deployments
  • CDN integration – Akamai, Fastly, or Cloudflare
  • Infrastructure as Code – Terraform or ARM templates

Adobe Ecosystem & Integrations

  • Adobe Experience Platform (AEP)
  • Adobe Analytics & Launch (Tags)
  • Adobe Target & ContextHub
  • Commerce Integration Framework (CIF)
  • Identity & SSO – SAML 2.0, OAuth2, Adobe IMS, LDAP
  • Search technologies – Solr, Elasticsearch, Oak Lucene
  • Caching technologies – Dispatcher, Redis, Ehcache, CDN strategies

Mandatory Project Experience

Candidates should demonstrate hands-on ownership of at least four of the following:

  • AEM On-Premise to AEMaaCS migration projects
  • Global multi-site implementations across 10+ country sites
  • Headless or hybrid AEM architectures using GraphQL and React/Next.js
  • AEM personalisation with Adobe Target and AEP
  • Large-scale DAM implementations with Dynamic Media/Scene7
  • AEM Commerce (CIF) implementations
  • Performance stabilisation and production rescue engagements
  • End-to-end Cloud Manager and CI/CD pipeline setup
