What does Junior Audio Engineer do at WPP Production?
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Audio Engineer to join our dynamic Production Team. This role will provide crucial support to our post-production projects, working across a diverse range of advertising content including commercials, digital videos, radio spots, and corporate brand films. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of audio production principles, a keen ear for detail, and a strong desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced and creative agency environment.
You will play a supportive role in ensuring the highest audio quality for all agency outputs, working closely with senior audio engineer, video editors, producers, and creative teams to bring campaigns to life through exceptional sound.
Key Responsibilities
- Audio Editing: Assist with editing dialogue, music, and sound effects, ensuring synchronization with video, adherence to creative briefs, and project timelines.
- Sound Design Support: Help source, create, and implement sound effects to enhance narrative, atmosphere, and emotional impact across various content types.
- Voiceover & ADR: Assist with setting up and conducting recording sessions for voiceovers and Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR), including microphone placement, signal routing, and basic session management.
- Audio Clean-up & Restoration: Perform basic audio clean-up tasks such as noise reduction, de-clicking, and hum removal to improve recording quality.
- Mixing & Mastering Assistance: Support Senior Audio Engineer in preparing audio for final mix, including gain staging, basic leveling, and ensuring compliance with broadcast, web, and platform-specific audio specifications.
- Asset Management: Efficiently organize, manage, and archive audio files, sound libraries, and project assets, maintaining clear naming conventions and folder structures.
- Quality Control: Conduct thorough audio quality checks on all deliverables to identify and rectify any technical or creative inconsistencies.
- Equipment Maintenance: Assist with the setup, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of audio recording and mixing equipment in studios and edit suites.
- Collaboration: Work closely with video editors, producers, directors, and other post-production team members to ensure seamless workflow and achieve creative objectives.
- Learning & Development: Actively seek feedback, learn new techniques, stay updated with industry trends, software advancements, and best practices in audio post-production.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/certification in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role, foundational knowledge and practical experience with at least one major Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) such as Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro X, Cubase, or Reaper.
- Basic understanding of audio principles, including acoustics, signal flow, microphone techniques, EQ, compression, and reverb.
- A strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing audio editing, mixing, or sound design skills (student projects are welcome).
- Excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven advertising agency environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative team-player attitude.
- Experience using or familiarity with AI tools in practical audio production work, specifically for the Chinese digital landscape.
- Language skills: Fluent in both Mandarin & English speaking and writing skills are essential.
