What does a CGI Artist do at WPP Production?
We are seeking a skilled CGI Artist to join our team to create exceptional imagery for advertising, branded content and commercial post-production. This role is for a versatile artist with strong end-to-end capability across CGI creation and compositing, and who is equally comfortable working on highly crafted hero imagery, design-led moving content and fast-turnaround commercial deliverables.
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, solutions-oriented and craft-focused, with experience working across a variety of styles and delivery requirements. You should understand the pace and expectations of commercial post-production, know how to balance quality with efficiency, and be capable of packaging work cleanly for review, revision and handoff to downstream teams.
You will play an active role in helping WPP Production deliver distinctive, technically solid visual work across a wide range of briefs - from product visualisation and motion-led brand content through to CGI asset creation and compositing.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality CGI work for advertising and branded content projects across a range of styles, from photoreal product imagery to design-led motion and visual effects-driven content.
- Work across the CGI pipeline as a generalist, contributing to modelling, look development, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing as required.
- Composite CGI and live action elements accurately, focusing on integration, realism, continuity, detail and finishing quality.
- Prepare scenes, renders, passes and platform scripts in a clean, organised and production-ready way, ensuring work can move efficiently through review, revision and handoff.
- Collaborate closely with the wider post-production team, including creatives, producers, editors, VFX artists and designers, to translate ideas into compelling visual outputs.
- Work effectively with the 2D team, ensuring assets, comps, layers, mattes, passes and documentation are handed over clearly for final delivery.
- Follow established workflows between CGI, compositing and finishing, maintaining a clear understanding of how work moves through a commercial pipeline.
- Respond positively and constructively to creative feedback, adapting work quickly while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Follow the technical and creative approach defined for each brief, balancing visual ambition, speed, and delivery requirements.
- Maintain clean file organisation, naming conventions, version control and render management practices.
- Troubleshoot everyday technical and creative challenges as they arise to help keep projects on schedule.
- Contribute to the visual development of projects through references, test frames, and style exploration.
- Stay up to date with relevant tools, workflows and developments across CGI, rendering, compositing and emerging technologies (including AI-assisted tools) relevant to the role.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment focused on craft, learning, and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CGI Generalist within a commercial post-production studio, VFX environment, design agency, or advertising production team.
- Working knowledge of Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D, After Effects, Nuke.
- Proven ability to work across key stages of the 3D pipeline, including modelling, surfacing, look development, lighting, rendering and basic compositing.
- Understanding of image integration, render passes, clean pass/layer packaging, and handing off assets smoothly to 2D/Flame finishing teams.
- Experience working in an advertising or commercial environment, with a good understanding of delivery pace and versatility.
- Strong eye for detail, realistic lighting, composition, materials, and clean execution.
- Good organisational and communication skills, clean file management practices, and the ability to work productively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Familiarity with procedural workflows or simulations in Houdini.
- Experience with motion design workflows and design-led commercial content.
- Understanding of colour-managed workflows and finishing requirements in post-production.
- Familiarity with character setup or character animation.
- Interest in emerging AI-assisted workflows for visual exploration and workflow efficiency.
- Experience working in boutique studios environments where adaptability and range are key.
